"Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." (Isaiah 6:5-7)
GOD’S PRECIOUS GIFT OF GRACE
Isaiah recognized that he was out of place. He was surrounded by sin. No matter where he turned, he could find no relief. He didn't belong. He was "a man of unclean lips" in the presence of the perfect and holy God.
But look what happens next! The King dispenses his grace. In dramatic fashion God shows Isaiah what he had done with his sin and his shortcomings. He had removed his guilt forever. Isaiah was the recipient of God's undeserved love with no strings attached.
Thankfully, that well of grace has not gone dry. Our King still dispenses grace to us who see him by faith. God's grace is our only escape from hell's horror. Grace is a love that can never be repaid. It is a love that moved Jesus, the King of heaven, to live on earth. His immeasurable love for us caused him to bear the punishment of our sins. Jesus, our King, has dispensed that grace to us in rich supply. How precious is his gift of grace!
